The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) was excited at the prospects of Junior Hockey Championships at the international level. The concept of Canada's best juniors against their international counterparts in Russia was intriguing to the CAHA and they sanctioned a World Tournament to be played in Western Canada in December 1975.

Accordingly teams were invited from Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Finland and the USA. Tournament games were scheduled for the USA team in Winnipeg against Canada, Fargo against the Swedes and in Bloomington against the Czechs and Russians. The USA Team was an All Star team from the Midwest League. It was initially assembled in November for a brief training camp under Coach Andre Beaulieu. The team was winless in 5 games in a World Class Tournament which once again displayed the skill level of the European programs.
