The 1968 Team assembled in the Twin Cities in late September to embark on a 35 game domestic and international schedule. The St. Paul Steers were renamed the Minnesota Nationals to play in the USHL and provide a farm system for the Olympic team.

Tom Hurley, Coach Williamson, Jack Morrison & Doug VolmarThe 35 game domestic schedule included games in the Central Pro and International Leagues and Canadian Senior teams. They also played in a pre Olympic Tournament in October in Grenoble, France. The 3 month schedule and the travel were extensive and grueling.

Coach Murray Williamson and Lou NanneAfter the very successful domestic and exhibition schedule the team experienced a disappointing 6th place in the Olympic Games. It became quite obvious that the European teams had made tremendous improvement over the past few years especially the Russians under Anatoli Tarasov, who was also known as the Godfather of Russian hockey.
