
Murray Williamson was a team player with the Golden Gophers for three years, where he was named All-American in 1959. Coming out of college, he played and coached in the United States Hockey League (USHL). Continuing to develop his coaching technique, Murray became head coach of the 1970 and 1971 U.S. National teams that competed in Bucharest, Romania, and Bern/Geneva, Switzerland. With a sharp appeal and undeniable success, Williamson was becoming a prime candidate to coach an Olympic team. Ultimately, Murray Williamson accepted an opportunity and coached the United States ice hockey team to a sliver medal at the 1972 Winter Olypmic games. Other accolades include the induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.
